Abstract
What does it take to turn an engineering degree into a purpose-driven, high-impact and high-income career? In this seminar, Tony Awojoodu shares the practical framework he used to land his dream role after completing a PhD in engineering at Georgia Tech — which can help you build a successful career that fuels both personal fulfillment and generational wealth.
Students will learn three principles that form the foundation of long-term career acceleration:
- Establish your core — Purpose: How clarifying your “why” creates direction, courage, and clarity in academic and professional decisions. Awojoodu will describe how discovering his purpose as a builder, problem-solver and community advocate guided his transition from engineering research into healthcare leadership and entrepreneurship.
- Build strength — Professional skills: Why technical expertise alone isn’t enough — and how to intentionally develop complementary strengths such as communication, influence and business acumen. He will share the specific skills he cultivated to stand out early in his career, earn trust from senior leaders and expand his impact across industries.
- Develop endurance — Time, energy and money management: The systems and habits that support sustained performance, protect well-being and enable strategic financial growth. Awojoodu will detail how effective energy management and disciplined financial planning helped him build long-term stability and create pathways to generational wealth.
Students will leave with a practical, repeatable framework for navigating their own professional journey — combining purpose, capability and consistency to earn the career and income they envision.

I was previously an engagement manager in McKinsey & Company where I worked with large, national health systems across the areas of strategy, operations and organization, and I led the firm’s recruiting and professional development efforts for underrepresented advanced degree candidates.
I have a PhD in biomedical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University where I studied lipid metabolism in sickle cell disease. I also have a Bachelor’s of Science in bioengineering from the University of Maryland and a MS in biomedical engineering from The University of Virginia where I studied stem cell mobilization for regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies.
I am the proud husband of Shay, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, and father to my princesses, Amari and Averi, and “dog”ter, Coco. We love traveling the world, enjoying new cuisines, and competitive board and card games.
