You can get an Accelerated Master’s in:
- Biomedical engineering
- Innovations in medical and patient care technologies, or IMPACT
Designed for the dedicated and driven Fulton Schools student, accelerated programs combine advanced undergraduate course work with graduate course work, enabling students to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree within five years.
Accelerated Master’s in biomedical engineering
The Accelerated Master’s in biomedical engineering allows students to share and/or reserve up to 15 credit hours of coursework. Shared coursework is applied to both the BSE and MS while reserved coursework is unique to the MS.

Eligibility criteria
- A cumulative ASU GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- At least 75 applicable credits completed towards the ASU Biomedical Engineering BSE program in order to apply.
- At least 90 applicable credits completed towards the ASU Biomedical Engineering BSE program prior to enrollment in the accelerated program.
Application procedure
- Eligibility criteria to apply can be met no sooner than spring of junior year.
- For preliminary approval to begin the program your senior year, complete the departmental form found below.
- Form submission deadline to begin fall of senior year: June 1
- Form submission deadline to begin spring of senior year: December 1
- Once accepted as an accelerated program student, you will be automatically admitted to the Masters of Science in biomedical engineering in the spring of your senior undergraduate year, provided all of the below is in place:
- A minimum of 90 credits hours has been completed.
- Your cumulative GPA does not drop below 3.0.
- You have applied to graduate from the BSE program.
- Admission to the masters program must be processed prior to the date of your undergraduate degree conferral for you to continue forward as an accelerated student and able to bring up the credits completed during your undergraduate program.
- No direct application to the biomedical engineering, MS program is required from accelerated pathway students.
- Watch for email communication from the SBHSE Advising Office requesting any information or confirmations needed to process your admission to the master’s portion of the accelerated program. Timely response is essential to ensure your admission is processed in the required timeframe.
Accelerated Master’s in innovations in medical and patient care technologies
The Accelerated Master’s in innovations in medical and patient care technologies, or IMPACT MS, allows students to share and/or reserve up to eight credit hours of coursework (six credits shared plus the option for reserving two seminar credits). Shared coursework is applied to both the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree and Master of Science degree programs, while reserved coursework is unique to the master’s degree program.

- A cumulative ASU GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- At least 75 applicable credits completed towards the ASU biomedical engineering, BSE program in order to apply.
- At least 90 applicable credits completed towards the ASU biomedical engineering, BSE program prior to enrollment in the accelerated program.

- Once accepted as an accelerated program student, you will not need to submit an ASU Graduate College application to the Master of Science in innovations in medical and patient care technologies in the spring of your senior undergraduate year, provided all of the below is in place:
- A minimum of 90 credits hours has been completed.
- Your cumulative GPA does not drop below 3.0.
- You have applied to graduate from the BSE program.
- Students applying to the IMPACT MS program are also required to complete a program interview with the faculty committee to be accepted into the program, which includes students on the accelerated track option. Accelerated students will be scheduled for their interview prior to or at the start of the term in which you have applied to begin the program as an accelerated student.
- If you plan to begin the program in the fall of your senior year, your program interview will take place in August.
- If you plan to begin the program in the spring of your senior year, your program interview will take place in January.
- Admission to the master’s degree program must be processed prior to the date of your undergraduate degree conferral for you to continue forward as an accelerated student and be able to bring up the credits completed during your undergraduate program.
